Emma Koi
Emma Koi is a multifaceted artist with a passion for innovating the classical music experience through multidisciplinary collaboration. She is the founder of Milwaukee-based performance ensemble, Cadance Collective, which treats music composition and dance choreography as common tools in creating original performance pieces. An active flutist and teacher in the midwest, Emma is a recent alum of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, is Principal Flute of the Festival City Symphony, and is on the faculty at Mount Mary University. She is a regular substitute with the Wisconsin Philharmonic and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and had the pleasure of joining the MSO on their 2012 Carnegie Hall tour as part of the Spring for Music Festival. She has performed under the baton of Edo de Waart, Charles Dutoit, Jaap van Zweden, Miguel Prieto, Andreas Delfs, Ricardo Muti, Matthew Aucoin, Nicholas Kraemer, Ludovic Morlot, and Julian Kuerti.
Emma holds a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University, Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her teachers in flute include Alberto Almarza, Jeanne Baxtresser, Jeani Foster and Caen-Thomason Redus, and in dance, Simone Ferro, Luc Vanier and Ed Burgess.
As a member of Zonda Duo, along with Argentinian flutist Julieta Blanco, Emma has toured as a performer and teacher throughout Argentina. She served on the faculty at the second annual International Festival of Youth and Children’s Orchestras in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2011).
As a dancer, Emma has worked with WildSpace Dance Company, and Milwaukee choreographer Luc Vanier. She is also a teacher for Danceworks, Inc.'s Mad Hot Ballroom and Tap program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
